BKT bags award for best port tyre manufacturer
Indian heavy-duty tyre maker chosen for its innovation and product performance at Dubai’s Terminal Operator Excellence Awards
Off-highway tyre manufacturer Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT) has won the “Port Tyre Manufacturer of the Year” award for port and terminal cargo handling equipment at the recently-concluded Terminal Operator Excellence Awards 2016 in Dubai.
The Indian multinational tyre manufacturer said in a statement that the award was based on various parameters, including technological innovation, product performance, durability, sustainable manufacturing and ease of recycling.
A team from the awards’ jury also visited BKT’s new production site in the western Indian city of Bhuj and gave the plant a high rating for its high level of process automation and strict adherence to process control, said the statement. The production facility is one of the world’s largest for off-highway tyre manufacturing and adheres to the ISO14001:2004 international standards for Environmental Management Systems.
BKT supplies port application tyres to most of the major terminal operators in the Middle East region, as well as to major ports in other parts of the world. At the Jebel Ali Port, one of the world’s biggest marine terminals, the tyres have stood out for their range and quality in round-the-clock applications, which netted them the award, with their performance found to be class-leading, both in terms of hourly costs and total service hours, BKT’s statement said.
The company added that it has also successfully launched its new range of radial port tyres, which include the Portmax PM 90 for reach stackers, Portmax PM 93 for straddle carriers and Liftmax LM 81 for forklifts. It will also shortly launch its radial tyre range for terminal tractor applications, BKT said.
