The UAE has pledged $200 million towards the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip following Israel’s war on the territory over summer, according to the state news agency.

The announcement was made at the Gaza Donor Conference in Cairo, which was attended by representatives of 50 states and 20 international organisations, WAM reported.

”We… reaffirm our absolute support for the rebuilding of Gaza so as to alleviate the suffering of its people and improve living conditions, in the Gaza Strip in particular and Palestine in general,” said Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE foreign minister.

The UAE offered assistance worth $92.3 million to the Palestinian territories, making the area the fifth largest recipient of UAE aid worldwide, the statement said.
