Kobelco hits Indian excavator production landmark

Indian subsidiary of Japanese major makes 10,000th hydraulic excavator in local factory

Construction equipment maker Kobelco has announced its Indian factory has hit a production landmark of 10,000 hydraulic excavators.

The Indian subsidiary of Kobelco Construction Machinery (KCM) recently held a ceremony to celebrate the occasion at its local factory in in Sri City Industrial Park in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

KCM said its Indian production facility had commenced operations in January, 2011 in anticipation of growth in demand in the Indian market. Starting with an initial production capacity of two units per day, the facility can now produce 10 units per day. KCM is reportedly working on improving the capacity further to 12 units daily.

Commenting on the occasion, the president of Kobelco Construction Equipment India, said: “We are very proud that we succeeded in manufacturing 10,000 hydraulic excavators in less than 10 years in India. Our goal for the next 10 years is to be a top-class factory among all Kobelco factories in terms of safety, quality, and productivity.”

With continued economic growth and substantial investment in infrastructure projects in India, the demand for hydraulic excavators has continued to rise in the country.
