Boskalis awarded $77.8m contract for Bahrain land reclamation project

Work begins Q3 2019 and is slated for completion in the third quarter of 2020

The Ministry of Works of Bahrain has awarded a $77.8m contract to maritime service sector specialist Royal Boskalis Westminster for the North Manama Causeway.

According to a statement from the Dutch firm, its programme will see the reclamation of an area of approximately 130 hectares, with an estimated volume of six million cu/m of sand. The project will call for the use of two medium-sized trailing suction hopper dredgers. The scope of work also includes rock revetment work for edge protection, Boskalis said.

Activities are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2019 and are expected to be complete in a year.

The North Manama Causeway is said to be part of the Ministry of Works’ strategic plan to improve the existing road network by developing new road corridors to support the rapidly expanding economy of Bahrain.
