Siemens awarded $128m Iraqi contract
Kurdistan plant will require four gas turbines and four generators to meet power demand
KAR Construction and Engineering, a contractor based in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, has awarded Siemens a contract worth more than $128m to supply gas turbines and generators for a gas turbine power plant in the semi-autonomous region.
KAR Construction and Engineering Company is building the Khormala plant for the independent power producer KAR Group, with commissioning set for 2013.
According to the contract, Siemens is to deliver four SGT5-2000E gas turbines and four SGen5-100A generators along with the associated auxiliary and ancillary systems at the four-unit gas turbine power plant.
Output is sufficient to meet around one quarter of the region’s power demand, delivering electricity to over four million people.
