New Dubai airport to receive passengers by 2013 end
Al Maktoum International Airport passenger terminal to cater to 160 million passengers annually
Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport will open its long-delayed passenger terminal by the end of 2013, the president of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman of Dubai Airports, said on Tuesday.
The airport, which began cargo operations two years ago, was originally due to open for passenger traffic in March of 2011. It has been designed to cater to 160 million passengers annually, a Reuters report said.
“We will look to open the passenger terminal by the end of next year,” Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al Maktoum told reporters. “Hopefully before the next Air Show in Dubai, we will open the passenger terminal.”
Al Maktoum International Airport is part of the Dubai World Central logistics complex.
Earlier this year, the management of Dubai World Central conducted a five city US tour to promote investment opportunities at the Dubai based mega-project.
The tour was conducted ahead of the 2013 edition of Dubai Airshow, at DWC’s Al Maktoum International Airport and meets key targets set by the Dubai Government to position the Emirate’s transport and logistics offerings as “major agents of economic diversification and development.”
