A $35 million power station has opened in Umm Al Quwain in the UAE, according to the state news agency WAM.

The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) announced the inauguration of plant as part of the federal government’s plans for the expansion of networks, amid rising electricity demand in the emirate.

Mohammed Saleh, director of FEWA, said the 270 megavolt ampere station is part of the second phase of power-station expansion in the Northern Emirates.

“Completed in 30 months, the new station will cater for the present and future developmental and industrial demands in the emirate,” he added.

Within two months, he revealed, FEWA will launch the third phase of the electricity network expansion at a total cost of AED1.5 billion.
