Works on $598mn Umm Al Quwain water desalination plant over 70% complete
Plant is expected to process 50 million gallons of water per day by Q4, 2021
Officials have announced that over 70% of works have been completed on a major water desalination project in Umm Al Quwain. The new plant is being developed across an area of 250,000sqm and is being developed at a cost of $598m.
According to a statement, the desalination plant will have four networks, with two being connected to the water supplies of the new water distribution centre in Al Khuraija, Ras Al Khaimah, while another will be connected to water supplies in Al Burairat, and another in Umm Al Quwain.
Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure stated that Phase I of the project is set to be completed, with the plant scheduled to process 50m gallons of water per day by the fourth quarter of 2021.
Al Mazrouei made the comments during an inspection visit to the project site accompanied by Mohammed Mohammed Saleh, director-general of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA), and other officials.
