Residents of Dubai’s Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) community continue to be plagued by traffic woes as roadworks pose accessibility issues for drivers in the area.

The four-year-long $122.5mn (AED450mn) project undertaken for road expansion, bridge construction and installation of traffic light systems, which was recently completed as per a report by The National, lead JLT to become a bottleneck on the otherwise smooth-flowing Sheikh Zayed Road in UAE.

While the report states the project’s completion has eased the situation for drivers, residents of JLT maintain the the roadworks project and its impacts have not yet completely receded.

“The traffic situation has improved drastically since the beginning of the year,” said Vibhuti Arora, an resident of JLT for four years.

“I wouldn’t go so far as to say the roadworks are  entirely completed; however, driving around has definitely gotten less time-consuming than earlier. Getting into the locality might be a problem during peak hours,” she adds.

JLT’s roadworks involved road-expansion to three lanes and the addition of a flyover which provides direct access from the community to Sheikh Zayed Road towards Dubai, added the report by The National.
