Bahrain begins construction of Expo 2020 pavilion
Christian Kerres was commissioned to design Bahrain’s pavilion
The foundation stone for the 2,000sqm Bahrain Pavilion at the Expo 2020 Dubai site has been laid. It will operate under the umbrella of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ and will examine the relationship between density, opportunity, sustainability and mobility as components of a thriving society.
The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) president and commissioner-general of the Bahrain Pavilion, Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa attended the ceremony, along with Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau executive director Najib Mohammed Al Ali and Bahrain ambassador to the UAE Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla bin Ali Al-Khalifa, as per a report by the Bahrain News Agency (BNA).
The pavilion was designed by Christian Kerres as a pathway to explore the interrelationships between creativity, density, and opportunity. It was designed to be a 24m semi-cubic building with a central and open viewing area (30m in length and width), supported by 126 columns that are 11cm thick.
BACA is also working with Wanders Werner Falasi Consulting Architects from the UAE to implement the Bahrain Pavilion at 2020 Dubai Expo.
