Wirtgen introduces new milling tools for soil stabilisation
Wirtgen Compact Carbide range offers high impact- and wear-resistant carbide cutting edges
German road construction machinery major Wirtgen has introduced the Wirtgen Compact Carbide (WCC) milling tools, a new range of tools for soil stabilisation.
The John Deere-owned company said in a statement that the new specially developed WCC tools are in addition to the point attack cutting tools with conventional carbide tips that have been widely used to date in soil stabilization.
Wirtgen added that soil stabilisation is the ideal solution for producing compactable soil with good paving properties from a sub-base with insufficient bearing capacity, and is a process widely used throughout the world. Road builders need to be able to process a wide variety of soil types, from “highly cohesive” to “interspersed with coarse rock” to “abrasive”.
Due to their shape and materials, Wirtgen’s newly developed WCC milling tools are perfect for mixing of cohesive soils interspersed with large pieces of rock. They have a highly wear-resistant carbide cutting edge that is nearly unbreakable and therefore impact-resistant due to the enormous strength of the material, said Wirtgen.
Depending on their application, WCC milling tools are a useful addition to the existing range of point-attack cutting tools, with Generation Z being the all-rounder for cold recycling and soil stabilization, the company said, adding that even the hardest base courses and soils can be economically processed with these point-attack cutting tools.
