PwC affirms Saadiyat Island worker welfare practicies
Independent auditor publishes findings from report on worker welfare on Saadiyat Island
The PwC report found both ‘positive findings and recommendations for improvements’ for worker welfare on Saadiyat Island.
The Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), the developer of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum on the Saadiyat Island, has said it will continue its commitment to secure an internationally recognised standard of living for its workers.
This follows the publication by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) of its findings on worker welfare practices on Saadiyat Island. The report evaluates the compliance by TDIC’s contractors and subcontractors with its Employment Practices Policy (EPP).
The report showed “positive findings and recommendations for improvements,” the developer said.
In June last year, TDIC named PwC as an independent auditor to monitor the welfare of construction workers on Abu Dhabi’s multi-billion dollar tourism project, after human rights groups called on Abu Dhabi authorities to provide better treatment for some 20,000 South Asian labourers working on the island.
In addition to the Guggenheim Museum, the $27bn development will also feature the Louvre and Sheikh Zayed National museums, a performing arts centre designed by world-renowned architectural firms, as well as a New York University campus, golf courses, hotels, and luxury residences.
