$53.3m in Jeddah sewage network contracts awarded

Contracts to connect 18,000 properties across three districts to the city’s sewage network

Saudi Arabia’s National Water Company (NWC) has signed four new contracts worth $53.33m to connect 18,000 properties in Rabwah, Al-Nuzha and Al-Faisaliya districts in Jeddah to the city’s sewage network.

Two of the contracts, worth a total of $22.66m, were awarded to local contractors to connect 9,000 houses in Al-Safa district with the city’s sewage network, which constitutes the first phase and covers 50% of Al-Safa district houses, according to a NWC official.

“The second phase will be implemented in mid-2013 and includes 72,000 sewage connections while the third and final stage will start in 2015 and see 30,000 connections being made in districts in South Jeddah,” the official told the Saudi Gazette.

Contractors have already started working on obtaining necessary permits from the Jeddah Mayoralty, after which they will start excavation works, the official noted.
