In light of the various worker mishaps being reported from across the country, a recent news story by local daily 
The National states two workers from Sharjah were the latest victims of occupational hazards and lack of safety procedures. 

Employed by a company specialised in cleaning diesel tanks, four men were trapped in a tank at their workplace.

“The notice came at 4.30pm on Tuesday and we dispatched our team with ambulances and officials from civil defence,” said a police spokesman.

“We found two people in very critical condition and distress and we helped them out of the tank,” he continued, adding they found two workers had already passed by then. The injured men were taken to Kuwait Hospital for treatment, added the report.

According to the police spokesman, initial investigations found the men had entered the tank without undertaking appropriate safety measures.

“There should not be any laxity in safety procedures and such violation that risks workers’ lives are seriously punished by law,” he said.
