Sharjah City Municipality (SM) has announced the expansion and relocation of its local bird and animal markets.

The animal market in Al Jubail Area in Sharjah will be moved to an area far from residential buildings, making for the expansion of the bird market in the emirate. The latter has witnessed a large number of visitors and traders, leading authorities in Sharjah to expand the market in size.

The ongoing development of Al Jubail includes a comprehensive plan to develop and expand the bird market in the area. Drafting of the plan involved ‘coordination and cooperation with the other concerned authorities in Sharjah’, as per a statement by the municipal body.

“The municipality is keen on developing and modernizing all the markets across the emirate to keep pace with the march of progress and development witnessed all over Sharjah,” said Dr. Rasha Ahmed Al Qassimi, Assistant Director-General for Public Health and Central Laboratories at the SM.

The redevelopment plan is being undertaken to ‘preserve the aesthetic and cultural appearance of the city, and to build modern markets that provide high-quality services to the public’.

Extensive efforts are regularly undertaken by the Municipality to carry out inspections, pest management services, and create a suitably healthy environment for the species in the market, added the statement by SM.
