UAE/Australian Habtoor Leighton Group has been awarded a contract to carry out piling works on this development. Tenders for construction works are expected to be floated in the middle of 2014.

This project is in Qatar. Client has pre-qualified six developers for the EPC contract. They include UK’s EDF; France/UK’s GDF Suez Energy International; Japan’s Marubeni, Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsui and Sumitomo. It is understood that the developers are currently in negotiations with EPC contractors to finalize the bidding teams. Client intends to award the EPC contract before the end of 2014 and is aiming for first power in late 2016.

Construction of an Independent Water Project (IWP) using reverse osmosis (RO) technology, with capacity of 45 million gallons a day (g/d).

Remarks:
This IWP will be built at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar. It has been designed to meet the additional 40-45 million g/d of industrial desalination capacity, which the client estimates Qatar will require by 2017. Client is preparing to issue Request for Proposals (RFP) for the main contract. The IWP site will have a layout and infrastructure for an ultimate capacity of 95 million g/d, which will enable future expansion of the facilities. It is understood that the client has received pre-qualification entries from developers.
