Liebherr erects tallest crawler in world

LR 13000 is heaviest lifter and tallest, says Liebherr

Liebherr has erected its LR 13000 crawler crane with its maximum lattice boom configuration at the manufacturing plant in Ehingen, Germany, which the company says is the tallest conventional crawler crane in the world.

The 120m main mast plus the 126m luffing jib produced a lattice boom system with an overall length of 246m. Mounted on the solid crawler chassis, the crane thus reaches a height of 248m.

The LR 13000 has a maximum lift capacity of 3,000t at 12m, or a maximum load moment of 65,000t, which Liebherr says makes it the most powerful conventional crawler crane in the world

In Ehingen the LR 13000 was fitted with 400t of slewing platform ballast and 1500 t of derrick ballast on a special foundation. The first load to be hoisted into the air by the 700t boom systems was an LTM 1030-2.1.

As a means of comparison, the crawler crane’s height is 86m higher than Ulm Minster, a church in  Germany which has the highest church spire in the world at 162m.

The LR 13000 could lift a load of 624t on to Ulm Minster in a single hoist – equivalent to around 600 small cars.
