Cundall appoints Mario Saab as head of sustainability business for the MENA region

Firm says it is continuing to grow its worldwide team of sustainability experts and will have a team of 100 in the next few months

Cundall has announced Mario Saab as its new head of Sustainability for the MENA region. He will be responsible for growing and shaping the firm’s sustainability business in the face of increased demand for sustainable solutions in the region.

According to a statement from Cundall, Mario is a mechanical engineer with more than 14 years’ experience. He is said to specialise in sustainability, energy efficiency and low-carbon design solutions. He co-founded SEEDS International in 2011, and was responsible for directing and controlling the company’s operations and departments, as well as leading several high-profile projects including sustainable accreditation for the EXPO 2020 UAE Pavilion, the Al Bayt and Khalifa FIFA 2022 Stadiums in Qatar, and energy efficiency consultation for the Meydan One Mall in Dubai and the new Bahrain Airport Midfield Terminal.

“Sustainability and net zero carbon construction solutions are increasingly in demand in MENA, and several governments are taking critical measures to advance it in response to climate change. However, there are still many businesses and public bodies that do not grasp the full scale of the challenge ahead of us. Over the past 14 years, I have been fortunate to integrate sustainability and energy efficiency into a number of high-profile projects across the region and I am extremely proud to have contributed to raising awareness in the market through trainings, conferences and workshops,” Saab commented.

He added, “Cundall already has strong sustainability offerings globally and I am delighted to be part of such a talented team. I am looking forward to the challenges and the prospects ahead to grow Cundall’s sustainability business in the MENA region. By capitalising on my background, diversified regional expertise and passion for sustainability, I aim to help Cundall reach its carbon positive aspiration by 2025 and assist our clients to embrace their sustainable future.”

The firm said its sustainability consultancy has 87 members worldwide and plans to continue expanding to reach the 100 staff mark within the next few months.

Richard Stratton, managing partner at Cundall MENA remarked, “We’re really pleased to have Mario on the team. His understanding of energy efficiency and low-carbon design will significantly enhance the business’s offering in the region, and we look forward to working alongside him and continuing to create sustainable solutions for the built environment. While the pandemic has certainly reshaped the way we work, over the last six months the sustainability team has experienced unprecedented growth as demand for our services increases, especially around the net zero carbon agenda.”
