A recent workshop conducted by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi city has stressed the importance of observing environmental, health and safety standards at all building and construction sites in the UAE capital.
The workshop, which was attended by nearly 600 construction sector workers and executives, aimed to help minimise the number of accidents that occur on sites with scaffolding. A report by Gulf News said that ministry officials highlighted the dangers posed by various types of scaffolds. They also outlined protective measures that could be taken on site.
The report added that construction site personnel were told to inspect scaffolding after ‘inclement weather’ and to affix directional signs on equipment.
Furthermore, officials stressed that all scaffolding should have wooden guardrails installed to frames, besides clearly marked entry and exit points.
They also said that loads should be checked on a regular basis, while workers should be required to wear safety belts and harnesses at all times when on scaffolding.
