Coronavirus: Fujairah Ruler unveils fee and tax waivers in response to COVID-19
Resolution supports businesses that have been impacted due to preventative measures restricting commercial activities
HH Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah has issued a resolution outlining exemptions for certain businesses from local licensing fees and taxes for the year.
The move is in response to current conditions and preventive measures designed to curb the spread of COVID-19, which have had an impact on certain commercial activities.
According to a report by WAM, the exemption period runs from January 1 to December 31, 2020.
Resolution No. 04 of 2020 outlines that some activities shall be exempted for a year from licensing fees such as professions in the popular market, Friday market, meat and poultry stores, tailors, cinemas, gaming centres and stores located in shopping malls, hotels, fitness centres, health clubs, wedding halls, and men’s and women’s salons.
The resolution also stipulated that resorts, hotels, and hotel apartments shall be exempted from the prescribed local tax.
In April, Fujairah also launched a drive-thru testing centre for the coronavirus, in line with the expansion of COVID-19 testing across the UAE. The testing centre is located in Rumailah Square.
