Coronavirus: Dubai Municipality announces restriction of movement for labour workers

Municipality circular says transport of labour workers to areas outside Dubai will be prohibited

Dubai Municipality has issued a decision restricting the movement of works to other emirates, according to a circular released on Tuesday, April 14, 2020.

In the circular, the municipality said: “In compliance with Dubai Municipality’s ongoing goal towards the Public Health and Safety of all sectors of the community, especially in the current climate that requires the social cooperation and adherence to the pre-emptive medical guidelines issued from the official public health authorities, measures must be taken.

“The transport of Labour Workers to areas outside of Dubai will be prohibited, as movement will be restricted to the boundaries of the emirate, the purpose of which to restrict the outside entry of workers not residing in Dubai, and to be implemented to date.”

The announcement comes in the wake of a similar decision made by the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development on April 11, where licensed business owners were told that blue-collar workers cannot move in and out of Abu Dhabi emirate till further notice.

“In line with the preventive measures against the coronavirus, COVID-19, we hereby announce the restriction of movement of labourers from and to the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Companies may allow movement within the regions of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, provided that this circular is observed starting from 6am today, Saturday, April 11, 2020, until further notice,” that circular read.

It is not yet clear whether essential workers may obtain permits to complete their duties.
