Authority says tram has become a key component of Dubai’s rail systems and public transport network as it celebrates its fifth anniversary
Marking the fifth anniversary of Dubai Tram on 11th November 2019, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that the tram has become a key component of rail systems and the public transport network in Dubai, with more than 28 million riders using the service since its launch.
In a statement, the RTA said that the Dubai Tram has made a significant contribution towards making public transport the ideal mobility choice for Dubai’s visitors and tourists. It added that growing numbers of commuters are using the tram, which provides an additional means of commuting that has eased people’s mobility.
The RTA statement praised Serco – the tram’s operator – for the successful operation of the system, which scored a 99.9% punctuality of service and achieved a 5-star rating in International Standards for Service Excellence (TISSE) in 2016.
On November 7, 2019, the RTA revealed that the Dubai Metro and Tram system transported 1.75 million passengers, including 57,837 tram riders between October 31 and November 2 – the three-day period during which the seventh Dubai Super Sale was held.
Dubai Tram helped move 23,763 people on October 31, which was the second-highest number of riders recorded by the tram in 2018 and 2019 and second only to the numbers registered on New Year’s Eve 2018, when it served approximately 33,000 people, it said.
