Tender issued for Knowledge Oasis Muscat’s sixth building
The building, KOM 6, will occupy an area of 51,000 sqm. while serving as a technology hub for local and international companies
Oman’s Shumookh Investment and Services Company, the investment arm of Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) has issued tenders for the construction of the sixth building at the Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM), the sultanate’s flagship technology park.
According to a report in Times of Oman, the 51,000 sqm. building, KOM 6, will be aimed at providing distinctive spaces and new services to complement the current services being offered by the other buildings.
Engineer Musallam Al Hudaifi, CEO at Shumookh Investment said: “KOM 6’s courtyard will be derived from traditional Omani architecture, while the building has been designed in such a way that it reduces direct sunlight and the gained heat while maintaining a modern design and glass facades.”
KOM 6 will also serve as a hub for local and international technology and communications companies, by providing large office spaces, banking services, commercial stores, and other services, said Al Hudaifi.
“The food court will comprise nine restaurants with indoor, outdoor and semi-outdoor dining areas,” he added.
The report also stated that the building will have a unique exterior design with a modernist touch and contemporary architectural styles that considers the architectural culture connecting the interior with the exterior spaces.
Anticipated to be completed in 2021, the new building is expected to keep pace with the growing demand at KOM. Besides being Oman’s technology hub, it is also Madayn’s technology park and symbolises a successful private-public partnership in the Sultanate.
