Construction equipment sector offers support for Notre Dame restoration
Manitowoc and Loxam pledge to provide free crane and equipment services
Help is pouring in for the restoration of Paris iconic Notre Dame cathedral from the global construction equipment sector, with some top names pledging their support to the reconstruction process.
Following the fire that caused large-scale damage to Notre-Dame de Paris, two big names that have come forward to contribute in the rebuilding are global crane giant Manitowoc and equipment rental biggie Loxam Group.
A statement from Manitowoc said its tower crane arm, Potain, has pledged to support reconstruction efforts of the historic French cathedral, providing tower cranes and related services free of charge. The terms of this offer have been officially presented to the authorities, said the company.
Barry Pennypacker, president and CEO of The Manitowoc Company, said: “It seemed natural to us that Potain, our tower crane brand that for more than 90 years has been involved in the construction of the most emblematic works of French architecture, is committed to rebuilding Notre Dame de Paris. Our cranes and technical expertise will be there to meet the challenge of a rapid reconstruction of the cathedral.
Meanwhile, French rental company Loxam said it will donate €10 million worth of rental services over the next five years for the reconstruction of the cathedral, pledging to provide free machines to the companies and tradesmen who will take part in the restoration.
“Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral is the legacy of accomplished builders that we ought to preserve. As a committed rental operator, Loxam wishes to contribute to the rehabilitation of this monument by providing equipment for an overall €10m value over the upcoming five years,” said Gerard Deprez, CEO of Loxam.
Two of France’s biggest contractors, Bouygues and Vinci, have also promised money and expertise.
