Al Futtaim’s Festival Plaza to open in December 2019

The Plaza will be home to Dubai’s second IKEA store

Festival Plaza, Al Futtaim’s latest community shopping project in on track to open in December 2019, according to a company statement.

The 64,800 sqm project is designed to serve as the centre of the upcoming Wasl Gate community and beyond, in South Dubai.

The substructure work has been completed and the ongoing superstructure is on track, while leasing the property has begun, with 80% of retail space already secured, said the official statement.

Timothy Earnest, group director, Al-Futtaim Malls, said: “We are excited to broaden our footprint to a key residential are and look forward to bringing our lifestyle expertise and successful retail mix to an even wider audience.”

Festival Plaza has confirmed that brands like IKEA and ACE will have outlets there, as well as Lulu Hypermarket has been chosen as the supermarket of choice.

This will be the second IKEA store to open in Dubai and will be spread across 30,000 sqm and will have a focus on sustainability and international training for IKEA employees. ACE and Lulu Hypermarket will be unveiling new concept stores, not seen before in Dubai.

The Festival Plaza project will have 2310 parking spaces and 120 stores, along with 40 cafes and restaurants and a 500-seat food court. The shopping centre is being built on the surrounds of Wasl Gate residential development which includes apartments, townhouses and international curriculum schools.

Easily accessible from Sheikh Zayed Road, the Plaza will be connected by the RTA Energy Metro Station.
