KSA starts Prophet’s Mosque expansion

Saudi Arabia has begun the largest ever expansion for the mosque in the Holy City

The Mosque will be able to accomodate 1.8m worshippers at a time once the expansion is complete.

King Abdullah has launched yesterday the largest expansion project for the Prophet’s Mosque in the holy city of Madinah.

Prince Abdul Aziz bin Majed, the emir of Madinah province has said the mosque will be able to accommodate 1.8 million worshippers at a time, when completed.

The Madinah Development Authority (MDA) said it will have to demolish 23 hotels, currently offering a total of 4,760 rooms in the central area around the mosque.

However, 21 hotel projects are expected to be completed this year, which will make up for the shortage, the MDA said.

The development plan aims to attract investment in the province until 2040, said Prince Abdul Aziz.
