New bridges aim to reduce pedestrian casualties on roads
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a $12.3m contract to build at least 13 new pedestrian bridges at different locations in the emirate during the next eight months, in an effort to reduce pedestrian casualties on roads.
The new pedestrian bridges include a 100-metre-long bridge across Emirates Road and an 86-metre-long bridge near the workers’ accommodation in al Ghusais.
Several other bridges stretching between 40 and 75 metres will also be constructed in different parts of Dubai, said Mattar al Tayer, chairman of the RTA. The number of footbridges includes 23 on the Red Line and 11 on the Green Line, he said.
