Dubai Canal pedestrian bridge works begin – RTA
Work on other projects progressing well, Roads and Transport Authority says
Installation works have begun on a major pedestrian bridge over the Dubai Canal near Al Safa Bridge, the Roads and Transport Authority has said in a statement.
The Dubai Canal project will have a total of five pedestrian bridges along its 3.2km stretch once completed, the authority added. Work on the other projects is progressing well, it confirmed, with one near the Jumeirah flyover currently under construction.
The bridges are being built at a height that will allow for the passage of yachts and boats underneath, the RTA said. Excavation, as well as work on building the concrete banks on either side of the canal have been completed.
According to the statement, 3.2 million cubic metres of soil were dredged for the canal, while 300 tonnes of concrete blocks are being used to fortify the banks.
Work on the Dubai Canal has been moving at a rapid pace, with water from the Dubai Creek now reaching all the way to the edge of Business Bay. The flow of water into Business Bay is an indication that work on the Canal is nearing completion, a report by Gulf News said.
Among the many projects coming up along the canal is a huge arch that is being built between the bridges of Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Wasl Road.
