Metito wins $9m Iraq contract

Infrastructure investment to reach $5.3b by 2014

Water management solution provider Metito, has won a contract valued at more than US$9m to upgrade the main Freeha Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in the holy city of Karbala.

The project, located approximately 100km South-West of Baghdad, is due for completion Q4 2012, by which time the plant’s capacity will have increased to handle 60,000m3 of effluent per day.

The infrastructure project will be delivered in collaboration with Balad Al Khebra.

“Iraq is striving to improve infrastructure across the whole country which will create interesting opportunities for the water sector”, insisted Mustafa Hasan, Metito general manager for Jordan, Iraq and Syria.

The contract is part of Iraq’s plan to invest US$5.3 billion in new infrastructure projects over the next two years.
