The Dubai-based developer Meraas has announced that it will be opening the region’s first bio-dome in the first half of the year.

The Green Planet, set to open on City Walk in Dubai, will recreate the world of a tropical rainforest with over 3,000 species of plants and animals, Meraas said. It will also house a 25-meter-tall tree.

The bio-dome will integrate exhibitions and displays to encourage visitors to understand the workings of the ecosystem.

It will add to the company’s leisure and entertainment division which currently comprises of: The Dome Box, the region’s first 360 degree dome theatre; Splash Pad, a wet play area for kids; and Reel Cinemas at The Beach in JBR, Dubai.

The news follows last February’s announcement by Damac Properties that it will be building the Middle East’s first “tropical rainforest” at its upcoming Akoya Oxygen development in Dubai.
