UAE environment minister meets with quarry and crusher operators
Effort to make facilities more sustainable
Thani Al-Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, met with some of the country’s crusher and quarry operators in Dibba, Fujairah, on Thursday, state news agency WAM reported.
During the meeting, Al-Zeyoudi presented the Ministry’s plan to develop and implement new federal legislation on evaluating the efficiency of quarry and crusher facilities.
Al-Zeyoudi also discussed the ministry’s efforts towards making quarrying and crushing facilities more sustainable, and ensuring the health and safety of residents living in the vicinity of these areas.
“The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment remains committed in its efforts to work closely with all sectors […], including local crushers and quarries. However, in order to become more effective, these facilities should adhere to the standards, guidelines and legislation to prevent environmental impacts and ensure continued sustainability,” Al-Zeyoudi said.
During visits to various quarries and crusher sites, the minister checked if the operators were compliant with procedures such as operating purification filters, covering conveyor belting resource, running water sprinklers during operations, and so on.
The ministry is also working on deploying smart services during the inspection process, such as a move to use drones to inspect various environmental sectors including crushers and quarries, WAM reported.
