Saudi JV awards JGC plant contract

Aromatics plant scheduled to be completed by the second half of 2014

Sadara has awarded Japan’s JGC Corporation a contract for an aromatics plant in the Kingdom.

Sadara Chemical Company, a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical Company, has awarded Japanese engineering firm JGC Corporation a contract to build an aromatics plant in the Kingdom.

JGC did not disclose the financial terms of the deal for the plant, which is set for completion in the second half of 2014.

“The lump-sum turnkey contract calls for engineering, procurement and construction services for an aromatics plant in Saudi Arabia’s Jubail region,” JGC said.

Last August, JGC won a contract valued between $100m and $200m from Saudi Aramco and Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical to expand an ethane cracker for their $7bn Rabigh II petrochemicals complex.

A report by Reuters said JGC is also among a 20 international engineering firms bidding to build a multi-billion-dollar refinery for Saudi Aramco in Jizan province.
