More than 60 bids received for Kuwait Metro

Public-Private Partnership project will have 69 stations and a total length of 160km

More than 60 local, regional and international firms have submitted expressions of interest (EOI) for phase one of the Kuwait Metro project, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) has reported.

The invitation was made by Kuwait’s Partnerships Technical Bureau (PTB) for companies to invest in integrated rolling stock and systems.

The PPP funded project will create a “fully integrated public transport network”, offering “flexibility of movement for the capital city and its suburbs”, according to aims laid out by the government as part of the Kuwait 2035 blueprint.

The entire project consists of 69 stations (16 per cent underground) with total length of 160 km. PTB is currently focusing on delivering phase 1 of the project which will include the construction network of roughly 50 km, with 28 new stations, 30 per cent of which will be underground.

Infrastructure and operator tenders will follow.
