Dubai’s RTA awards contract for internal roads in Al Barsha
Contract will complement an initial phase of road construction at Al Barsha South 1
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract for the construction of 16km of internal roads at Al Barsha South 2, according to a statement.
The new contract will complement the initial phase of road construction at Al Barsha South 1. Both projects combined will be built at a cost of AED100 million ($27.2 million), the government body said.
“Construction of internal roads at Al Barsha South 2 is indicative of RTA’s keenness to improve the infrastructure of roads, street lights, and storm-water drainage systems in residential neighbourhoods to meet the needs of urbanisation in the emirate,” said Mattar Al Tayer, RTA chairman.
Work on the project will start in August, he added.
The scope of the contract includes road works, a rainwater-drainage system, improvements of electricity and water networks, street lights using LED light technology, and the construction of public parking areas for schools and mosques.
Construction work on the initial phase of the project at Al Barsha South 1 is almost complete, and set for completion by the end of August this year. The work covered the construction of roads stretching 60km (49km as internal roads and 11km as main roads) and included the provision of an additional entry point to Al Barsha South 1 from Umm Suqeim Road, and an entry point to Al Barsha South 2 from Hessa Street.
The Al Barsha road projects are part of a wider AED1 billion ($272.2 million) five-year plan to pave internal roads in residential communities around Dubai.
Under the plan, five other residential districts are also set to get new roads next year, namely Al Aweer 1, Jebel Ali Industrial, and Al Qusais Industrial Areas 3, 4 and 5.
