Dubai’s transport authority is moving ahead with a large development project above the Union Metro station, and plans to issue tenders in May.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has issued guidelines outlining the Union Oasis project, according to the UAE’s state news agency WAM.

Developers will be asked to bid for the project in May, with the project built on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis.

Construction of the towers will be on an area spanning 15 thousand square meters, according to WAM.

“The Union Oasis project is the first manifestation of [the] transit-oriented development concept in the region, which promises to be a prominent destination for Dubai residents and visitors,” said Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, head of the RTA’s Rail Agency.

“The project focuses on developing Union Square by providing an exquisite environment including residential units, offices, pedestrian-friendly streets, landscapes, vital utilities and retail outlets, among others,” added Al Ali.

“The Union Oasis project would be implemented on the basis of Public-Private Partnership between the RTA and a private developer selected in a competitive bidding process to be rolled out this May.”
