DP World orders 69 cranes for Jebel Ali Port

DP World has ordered 19 quay side cranes and 50 rail mounted gantry cranes

Jebel Ali Port is expected to be able to handle 19 million TEUs by 2014.

DP World, the Dubai based marine terminal operator, announced on Thursday that it had signed agreements with local and international companies for the supply of Ship-to-Shore quay cranes and  rail-mounted gantry cranes for its flagship development, Jebel Ali Port.

The company will take possession of 19 quay cranes and 50 gantry cranes, a statement said. These pieces of equipment will operate in DP World’s four million TEU capacity, Terminal 3 development inside the port, a Gulf News report said.

The Dubai based newspaper added that the new container terminal would be 1,860m long, with a depth of 17m.

This enables the port to be able to handle multiple next generation container liners simultaneously, and a 70 hectare yard as well.

Once completed in 2014, the Jebel Ali Port will have a total capacity of 19 million TEU.
