Dubai ‘witnesses the impossible’ as ALEC completes final lift of The Link
Show-stopping 9,500t steel structure forms the central feature of Ithra Dubai’s flagship One Za’abeel development
ALEC Engineering and Contracting has completed the final lift of The Link, a 9,500m steel cantilever which forms the central feature of One Za’abeel.
Raised to a height of 125m and situated between two towers that stand at 300m and 235m, The Link is expected to officially become the world’s largest cantilevered building upon completion, an official Guinness World record.
ALEC is the main contractor of One Za’abeel and oversaw the successful completion of the the first lift in August 2020.
The final lift began on 21 October and took four-days. The Link went through final alignment during the week while the cantilever was welded into the towers, explained ALEC.
“We have witnessed the impossible come to life through ‘The Link’,” said Kez Taylor, CEO, ALEC. “Throughout the four-day process this month our team continuously monitored the structural behaviour of ‘The Link’ and the Towers, reassuring the design’s integrity and strength. It has been a great privilege for ALEC to work on such an innovative and breath-taking design, and we are humbled to be part of an engineering project that solidifies Dubai’s reputation as a centre of innovation and excellence. One Za’abeel is a development that has already earned its reputation as an iconic structure within Dubai’s world-class skyline and we look forward to a successful top out in the months to come.”
Ithra Dubai says One Za’abeel is planned as mixed-use development featuring retail, residential and hospitality and offices. Guests, tenants and visitors will be given an “unparalleled” 360-degree view of the city once finished.
