Bahrain’s IDC awards design and supervision contract to MSCEB Architects and Engineers for Dilmunia Mosque
Mosque is an integral part of Dilmunia master development says developer
Ithmaar Development Company (IDC), the development manager of Dilmunia, has awarded the design and supervision contract for the Dilmunia Mosque to MSCEB Architects and Engineers, it has announced.
A statement from IDC said that the Dilmunia Mosque is an integral part of the Dilmunia master development and will provide a space for worshippers to gather and pray in harmony, adding to the development’s vision of being a ‘modern, tranquil and thriving community’.
IDC said that the mosque will include a prayer hall with the capacity to hold 200 worshippers, segregated male and female worship areas, a multi-use community hall, and a library/reading hall, as well as a car park.
Located on the western side of Dilmunia and strategically positioned at the island’s gateway, with a 55-m water frontage the Dilmunia Mosque will stand-out as a building that is visible and accessible from the adjacent access highway.
On the new contract, CEO Mohammed Alsayed said: “Following several rounds of discussion, the design we developed alongside MSCEB Architects and Engineers reflects Dilmunia’s passion for sustainable iconic buildings that can be inclusive of both modern and traditional architecture.”
“Simplicity, purity and harmony are the themes that we associate with our developments, and they have been integrated into the Mosque’s design. We are targeting construction to begin by the middle of next year and look forward to working with MSCEB and utilizing their expertise to build a one of a kind structure,” stated Alsayed.
MSCEB Managing Director Thamer Salahuddin said: “The character of the mosque’s architecture can be described as a modern interpretation of traditional elements. The simplicity and elegance of the design will enhance the spiritual experience within the mosque as it takes into account the aspect of minimalism we have embodied within our design.”
“We are very pleased to have been awarded this prestigious project amongst strong competition with international contenders,” stated Salahuddin.
The Dilmunia Mosque has also taken into account the local Bahraini climate, with beautiful courtyards providing shaded outdoor spaces, the developer said.
Alsayed said that Dilmunia has completed its third and last phase of infrastructure in January. Meanwhile, the commencement of the Grand Canal and Marina works is ongoing, and as a key attraction to the Island.
This area, named the ‘Canal Walk’ will complete the first phase by end of this year, and will support the positioning of Dilmunia as a destination of choice for residents and investors.
The island offers a range of residential and commercial amenities, with developments completed including The Treasure by Bin Faqeeh Development Company and The Essence of Dilmunia by Ahmed Al Qaed Group.
Projects under construction include: CanalView by Naseej and The Hanging Gardens by Ahmed Al Qaed Group. The Mall of Dilmunia, a unique mall with and a family-centric and entertainment facility was completed in April.
