Dubai Maritime City Phase One works on track for completion says DP World

Development of the residential and commercial area is said to consolidate DMC’s status as a leading maritime services provider

35% of infrastructure work within Phase One of Dubai Maritime City (DMC) has been completed according to DP World. The progress made thus far puts the $38.1m project on track for completion in Q1, 2021 despite the outbreak of COVID-19, DP World said.

According to a statement, the main area of work has been on deep services (water and sewer pipes), including surface water and foul drainage, as well as the development and maintenance of shallow utilities in the areas where the deep services have been executed.

COVID-19 did not cause significant delay and the main contractor is fully mobilised to complete the project as set in its timeline, since the contract was awarded in Q3 2019. All precautionary measures to protect workers have been taken, and most site works were conducted by workers wearing masks and keeping safe distance, and with the continuous disinfection of the site, the statement said.

“The work completed so far in the development of Phase 1 is a source of pride for all teams having achieved this milestone despite unprecedented challenges. The project when completed will provide DMC with an efficient and sustainable infrastructure to support a modern business community and enable the vision of our sub-developers in a timely manner,” said DP World group chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem.

Bin Sulayem said that the precinct is a mixed-use area which will feature residential and commercial buildings, office towers, and a promenade with a mesmerising living and working environment and breathtaking sea views, all within a vibrant community.

Deep infrastructure works along Sheikh Rashid Road (adjacent to sub-developer plots along the seaside) have been completed and backfilled. The focus is now on the structures of lift stations and a pump station. Work on the DMC central pumping station for firefighting and the irrigation network is also underway, said the statement from DP World.

The statement also said that infrastructure for Phase One will integrate DMC with the Mina Rashid area that includes the QE2 Hotel, Marina views, Marina Cubes, Marinas, Marina Fitness 72 and other commercial and residential facilities.
