Abu Dhabi’s tallest building will be ready for residents by early 2014, the developer behind the project said on Monday.
The Residences at World Trade Centre is 382m high and includes 89 floors of apartments. The project has a total of 98 floors because of additional space towards the top of the building, the developer Aldar said.
The tower has become a recognisable addition to the UAE capital’s skyline thanks to its distinctive sloped roof, which is visible throughout much of the city.
Once construction work on the project is completed, Khalifa Street, which has been split into two for the last seven years, will be re-joined.
Residents of Abu Dhabi have long complained about the massive project dividing one of Abu Dhabi’s main streets while also restricting access to Aldar’s Central Market souk.
The developer said it accepted that the public had long been inconvenienced by the project, but said that the combined Central Market mall and souk, which is also part of the development, would be worth the wait.
The mall will be ready later this year and will also include an eight-screen cinema and more than 20 food outlets.
