Shamal Steel Arch Bridge in RAK sets new world record
Shamal Steel Arch Bridge is part of the second phase of the Emirates Road, says minister of Infrastructure Development
Ras Al Khaimah has set the new Guinness World Record for building the world’s longest steel bridge, Shamal Steel Arch Bridge, which has a length of 32.37m. The former record was held by Poland for its 26m long bridge.
The RAK bridge can handle 2000 vehicles per hour and includes a life expectancy of 104 years without any maintenance, and the ability to bear all loads and weights. It also has several other economic advantages compared to concrete bridges.
The arched steel structures are corrugated iron sheets that are executed after the design, according to the project estimation. The sheets were then manufactured, coated and plated in the factory. The plates and accessories were transported in containers.
Abdullah bin Mohammed Balheif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development, said that the ministry is keen to complete infrastructure projects in an innovative way to serve the sustainability of projects and their compliance with environmental standards. These were taken from the strategy and direction of the UAE and the guidance of its wise leadership, said Al Nuaimi.
He received a certificate from the representative of the Guinness World Records during the ceremony which was organised by the ministry at the bridge site.
