Edamah appoints main contractors for Phase One of beach-front development project
Bilaj Al Jazayer project will serve as a destination point for leisure and entertainment for both tourists and residents
Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company (Edamah) has appointed Nass Contracting and Al Hassanain Company as the main contractors for Phase One of its $8 million beach-front development, Bilaj Al Jazayer, which is located in the west of the Kingdom.
Edamah is the real estate arm of Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund. In a statement, it said that the first phase of the project comprises of improvements to a 1km stretch of unrestricted vacant beachfront. This would be later enhanced by a landscape promenade, food and beverages options and other supporting amenities for a beach.
Bilaj Al Jazayer will serve as a destination point for leisure and entertainment, for both tourists and residents, senior company officials said, speaking during a signing ceremony held on the side lines of a real estate event in the Kingdom.
Phase Two of the project will include the construction of a four-star hotel that will be situated on the coast. This will serve visitors to the country who wish to spend more time at a seaside resort, the officials said. The current scope of work includes improvements to the 1km of existing beach, and provision of two beaches out of several, which will develop a walking path along the coast, in addition to accompanying services.
The officials asserted that Edamah’s vision was to transform the existing beach into a world-class beachfront destination for Bahraini families, GCC nationals and international tourists. The project is in line with the 2030 vision, which targets the preservation of public waterfront spaces and the creation of sustainable tourism.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Al Hassanain Company and Nass Contracting as the main contractors for Bilaj Al Jazayer beach improvement works. The scope of this phase of the project is expected to conclude by the third quarter of 2019,” said Amin Alarrayed, Edamah CEO, while announcing the contracts.
“These improvements will offer supporting amenities and entertaining facilities for locals and tourists, which will subsequently create attractive opportunities for investors.
“We aim through our strategy to implement a number of vital projects in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, as the current priority focuses on conducting developmental projects that achieve financial sustainability and assesses ways to enhance the national economy and achieve social wellbeing,” he said.
As per the terms of the deal, Al Hassanain Company will help modify and rehabilitate the current beach and provide one that is suitable for swimming. Al Nass Contracting will be responsible for the supply of the necessary rocks for the beach improvement works.
Edamah manages a portfolio of real estate assets worth $504 million and is currently working on several developmental projects while exploring real estate initiatives in the hospitality and retail sector, Alarrayed said. These include The Terminal complex, which was launched last year in Adliya, and a mixed-use waterfront project, Sa’ada, being developed in Muharraq.
