Musanada awards Atkins $2bn project

Consultancy to design infrastructure for the 130,000 capacity housing community in Abu Dhabi

The $2bn project will eventually house more than 130,000 people.

Abu Dhabi General Services (Musanada) has selected engineering and design consultancy, Atkins, to design the infrastructure for a new $2.06bn Emirati community in the emirate.

The 42kmNorth Wathba Urban Development is located north of Baniyas and south of Shamkhah on Abu Dhabi mainland and will eventually house a community of 130,000 people.

The project is being led by Musanada, which is responsible for delivering shared services for Abu Dhabi government entities, including design, procurement and construction management.

Atkins will be responsible for the design and tender documentation for the enabling works and permanent infrastructure, said Dr Ghassan Ziadat, the director of infrastructure and regional head of bridges for Atkins.

This includes primary and local roads, streetscape, public realm landscaping and amenities as well as all the utility transmission and distribution networks comprising drainage, sewerage, potable water, power, gas, district cooling and telecommunications, added Dr Ziadat.
