$816mn worth of key infrastructure completed at Sharjah Waterfront City
Master planned project is expected to house more than 60,000 people once it is completed
Infrastructure development works worth $816m have been completed at the under-development Sharjah Waterfront City according to developer Sharjah Oasis Real Estate. The firm has handed over two power transmission and distribution plants, which will supply up to 700MW of electricity to the urban waterfront community.
The power transmission and distribution plants were handed over by chairman Sheikh Abdullah Al Shakrah to Dr. Rashid Alleem, chairman of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA).
Sharjah Waterfront City is said to be the largest mixed-use master planned waterfront community in the northern emirates. It is being developed at a total cost of $6.8bn and will feature 1,500 villas, 95 towers on eight islands, a marina with 800 berths, a large shopping mall and water theme park, as well as a commercial cluster and retail arcade.
“I am pleased to announce the completion of $816m worth of infrastructure works within Sharjah Waterfront City, including the removal of 12m cubic metres of sand to dig 3.5m deep canals with widths spanning 100-300m and develop eight islands within the landscape that helped us to create 20 km of new coastline and beachfront properties. As part of the infrastructure projects, we have moved and installed 5m tonnes of rocks to create breakwater and marina quays and the protection of water channels, in addition to the construction of bridges, roads and power transmission and distribution plants, which cost $68m,” said Sheikh Abdullah Al Shakrah.
According to Sharjah Oasis Real Estate, this is the first time a private developer has built its own power distribution and transmission plant and handed them over to a state owned public utility.
Describing Sharjah Waterfront City – Ajmal Makan as a precious pearl within a huge shell, Sheikh Abdullah added, “It is a city within a city and features integrated facilities where people can live, work and relax shop, dine and enjoy the best lifestyle. Sharjah Waterfront City stretches over 60m sqft of the Gulf’s pristine coastline, making it an ideal destination for residents and tourists.”
