Parsons wins contract for 1,000km highway project in Oman
US firm will provide design and construction supervision services for dualisation of cross country road
Parsons, the US based engineering services firm, announced on Tuesday that it had been awarded a contract by Oman’s Ministry of Transport to provide design and construction supervision services for the dualisation of the Nizwa-Thumrait road.
The 1,000km long project will provide a link between Oman’s capital of Muscat and the southern city of Salalah. It will be fully dualised, the ministry said. The project will involve the conversion of the existing 715km single carriageway to a four lane dual carriageway.
Furthermore, several grade-separated interchanges, cross drainage structures, camel crossings and rest/service areas will be built along the route.
Parson’s scope of work will include alignment study and finalisation, traffic study and analysis, preliminary and detailed design (on a fast-track schedule), tender documents and construction supervision, Guy Mehula, president of Parsons MENA+ said.
“The Nizwa-Thumrait road project will help improve transportation between the southern and northern parts of the region by upgrading the existing infrastructure to a modern road network,” said Mehula.
Parsons’ portfolio of ongoing projects in the MENA+ region includes major highways, bridges, rail and transit, airports, ports, water infrastructure, plus hospitals, public schools, universities, mosques, and other public buildings.
