Zack Shahin, the former chief executive of Dubai-based developer, Diyaar, who was freed on bail last month, has been detained by Yemeni authorities after fleeing the UAE.
Citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, a report by Reuters said Shahin was smuggled out of the UAE and was then arrested in Yemen, without specifying when he left the country.
Shahin, who had been detained since March of 2008 over embezzlement charges, went on hunger strike in May and was released on $1.4m bail.
“Shahin is still being detained by the security apparatus,” a Yemeni security source, who declined to be named, was quoted by the news service as saying.
“We expect that the man will be deported to the UAE before the end of the week,” the source added.
