$118m construction contracts for UAE roads awarded
Ras Al Khaimah and Khor Fakkan roads will be built within the next two years
The Follow Up Committee of Initiatives of the UAE President has approved the awarding of two contracts worth $118.4m for the construction of the Ras Al Khaimah Ring Road and Phase One of the Khor Fakkan western ring road.
The $108.3m Ras Al Khaimah Ring Road is a 32km arterial extension of the proposed Umm Al Qaiwain express highway. The project is scheduled to be completed within the next two years. It will have three lanes in each direction, separated by a 12 metre wide median barrier that could be used to build a fourth lane in the future, the Committee explained.
Meanwhile, the four kilometre long Khor Fakkan western ring road will serve as an alternative route to vehicles going to and from the East Coast city. The $9.5m road will have two lanes, which will be fully lit in both directions.
The projects are being implemented in line with the directives of the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the follow up of General His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
