$32.7m project will be 150m tall and 105m wide and will attract about two million visitors and tourists
The Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has given the green light for the implementation of the Berwaz Tower (Dubai Landmark) at Zabeel Park.
Formerly called the Dubai Frame, the $32.7m project will be 150-metre tall and 105-metre wide and will be a “promising tourism project and expected to attract about two million visitors and tourists,” according to Hussein Lootah, director-general of the Dubai Municipality.
Conceived by the architect Fernando Donis, the design of the project was selected from a total of 926 submitted to a government-initiated competition for a new emblematic structure.
The design included lifts in each vertical shaft and an observation deck at the top. It also included an underground car park, a library in the base of the structure and a terrace cafe on the top cross-beam.
Construction works are expected to begin within four months, with the aim of being completed by the end of 2013.
