UK’s Lakesmere awarded KAIA roofing deal

Contractor will be responsible for the design, engineering and planning work of new KAIA’s roof

UK-based roofing contractor Lakesmere has been selected by Saudi Arabia’s Saudi Binladen Group for a multimillion-dollar deal for the redevelopment of one of the Kingdom’s largest airports.

Hampshire-headquartered Lakesmere will be responsible for the design, engineering and planning work for a new roof for the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. Under the agreement, the firm will design around 300,000 m2 of aluminium roofing for the airport’s new terminal building. The 18-month build programme will start towards the end of 2012, said Lakesmere.

The contract is the company’s largest international order to date and follows contract awards for a roofing package at a new airport in Salalah, Oman, roofing works on several new ancillary buildings at Muscat Airport and a roofing contract for a new Civilian Aviation Centre and Air Traffic Control centre in Oman.

Lakesmere opened its first office in the Middle East in Abu Dhabi in 2009. It has since established offices in Riyadh and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia in addition to premises in Muscat, Oman.
