Bemco awards Alstom $122m contract for Riyadh gas-fired plant

French company to supply two 342MW steam-turbine generator sets and eight heat recovery steam generators

Arabian Bemco Contracting Company, a Saudi-based EPC turnkey contractor in Industrial and power projects and South Korea’s GS E&C have awarded Alstom Thermal Power a contract worth more than $122.5m to supply steam tail for the 2,175MW Riyadh PP12 gas-fired power plant.

Alstom will supply two 342MW steam-turbine generator sets and eight heat recovery steam generators for the power plant and will provide equipment in an integrated package which will augment power output from the plant by an additional 4MW.

Bemco and GS E&C are building the thermal power plant 100km west from Riyadh for the Saudi Electric Company.

The plant uses the exhaust gases from the gas turbines to generate steam and run the steam turbines, and maximise fuel utilisation with a highly efficient combined cycle design.

Some of the French firm’s projects in the region include the steam tail for the Az-Zour gas-fired project in Kuwait, which will add 400 MW to the existing plant capacity, the natural gas & heavy distillate (fuel oil) Damietta 1-3 power plant in Egypt for which Alstom added a steam tail with three 139 MW steam turbines.

For Dubai’s Condor/Kestrel 125 MW aluminium smelter complex in Jebel Ali, Alstom supplied three 125 MW steam turbines. The company also added two 103 MW steam turbines to Pakistan’s Kot Addu residual oil & natural gas power plant.
